True crime is not normally a genre I enjoy, but Guilt is a true crime podcast like no other. There is a striking sense of place in every episode; the listener feels like they are riding along with Ryan as he seeks answers to unsolved crimes, with a degree of empathy and tenacity that is quite extraordinary. It was this feeling of 'being there,' as well as the experience of uncovering clues and the slow accumulation of information, that I wanted to render in this new watercolour series, Landscapes of Guilt.

LANDSCAPES OF
GUILT
One of the most common questions we get from listeners is “How can I help? Can I donate somehow to show my support.” For us the answer is that the best way to support the podcast is to become a subscriber, but for many people they’re looking for something more. So Local New Zealand artist Joshua Drummond and podcast creator Ryan Wolf have thought long and hard and came up with this new concept - Landscapes of Guilt. A limited edition series of beautiful hand painted watercolours related to the different Seasons of Guilt. The proceeds of each sale are split 50% to the artist (this is very important to Ryan and the team at Brevity Studios - “In the ever evolving world in which we live, celebrating genuine art and supporting the artists that create it has never been more important.” - Ryan Wolf). The remaining 50% will be donated to either a charity or cause of the victim’s families choice, or one selected by the Brevity Studios team. Brevity Studios will never receive a dollar from any sales. The prints will be first offered to Brevity+ Subscribers for the first week, then they will be open to the public after this time.
Each piece will be unique and will be a dreamy snapshot that represents a scene from the podcast, and within the landscape you can expect to find elements specific to the case and the victim.
In this first watercolour we can see a beautiful Australian Hinterland scene, to reflect Jessica Gaudie’s love of music a piano sits forlorn in the front of the scene. There will always be other hidden elements to be found to those who have a keen eye.
What you’re purchasing:
You are purchasing a high quality PRINT of this genuine hand painted watercolour. The print will be signed on the reverse by both the artist Joshua Drummond and the podcast creator Ryan Wolf. Each print will also come with a unique QR code, providing access to an exclusive behind the scenes video made by the artist, detailing some of the process and meaning behind this special piece of work.
These prints are limited with only 50 available for each watercolour. They will be numbered and you will receive the relevant number based on the time of your purchase. i.e. the first purchaser gets No.1 and so on until all 50 have been sold.
The price of NZD$89.99 includes the print itself and suitable packaging and handling to get it sent to you, however postage is not included so please take that into consideration when making your purchase. We apologise but for now, postage is only being offered to Australia and New Zealand, we will look to add further countries for upcoming prints.
Once the series is sold we will send out receipts to all purchasers showing the donation to the charity or cause selected.
In the case of this first watercolour on behalf of Jessica Gaudie. Jessica’s sister Tammy Gaudie has selected the Cerebal Palsey charity CPL Choice, Passion, Life Australia. Jessica had dreams of working in this field and they believe this charity would mean a lot to her.
If you have any questions about the painting, delivery or anything connected to this new concept we’d love to hear these. Please email brevitystudiosnz@gmail.com.

GUILT Landscapes - Jessica Gaudie

From The Artist:
In this first landscape, 'Settling Light,' I wanted to pay tribute to the landscapes of the Hinterland in particular the rural countryside around Booloumba Creek Road, Conondale, and Kennilworth. In the podcast we learn how Jessica loved music, and this unfulfilled passion, cut short by tragedy, struck me as particularly poignant. This love of music was an element I was keen to represent in this painting. There are other aspects of the case I wanted to symbolise that the keen-eyed may be able to spot – but apart from one or two elements, I have been careful to avoid anything overt. The pictures in this series are intended to be faithful to the real landscapes, and I want them to show the way that the places we inhabit can be both welcoming and foreign, and how any given landscape conceals as much as it reveals.
